As many as half of all people who live to be at least 65 years of age will develop skin cancer at least one time in their lives, and each year, more than 3 million cases of skin cancer are diagnosed in the United States alone. Although not all skin cancer is sun-related, some types, including the most deadly (melanoma), are caused at least in part by exposure to ultraviolet rays. Sun exposure also leads to cellular damage that is responsible for signs of premature aging and results in fine lines, wrinkles and skin discoloration.
