Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy acid typically derived from willow tree bark. Like most BHA's, salicylic acid penetrates the skin layers at a much deeper level compared to other acids, providing stronger results but requiring more downtime for healing. (This is why you may notice a few minor blemishes in the days following a salicylic acid peel.)
If you're looking to clear up severe cases of acne, smooth rough skin texture or even reverse sun damage, we also suggest you look to products containing this ingredient.
You can also benefit from salicylic acid if you wish to lift hyperpigmentation, as it eliminates the upper most layer of dead skin cells where discoloration can live. It is also just as effective on facial blemishes as it is on the chest or back acne. For those with dry skin, however, we suggest opting for other ingredients given salicylic acid tends to be drying. Instead, it works best for those with oily skin, comedonal acne, blackheads, melasma, and enlarged pores.
